Happy Birthday Ramon!
Today is the day that 114 years ago Ramon Novarro was born.
He was a very good looking Latin lover of the silver screen that was taken from the world in an ugly, violent way and it is just awful to think about. So, let us focus on the good that Ramon bought to his movie fans and that was of a tough and daring Judah in Ben-Hur or a love struck prince in The Student Prince of Old Heidelburg.
"The future is merely the prolongation of the present. Do your best in the present and the future will take care of itself. That's why I never worry about what will come." ~~ Ramon Novarro in The Evening Independent - September 24, 1949
"There is nothing left to the imagination. They show you everything - almost. I don't think that is right. It was different in the old days. Our pictures made suggestions, but we left something for the audience to imagine. Movies should be an escape for people. They should be able to lose themselves in the characters on the screen by using their imaginations...I remember a love scene Garbo and I did in 'Mata Hari.' It was a shot in the dark with only two cigarettes glowing. You didn't know whether we were in bed or on a couch or what. Ah, that was movie making." ~~ Ramon Novarro in the Ocala Star-Banner - March 26, 1959

He was such a big star in his day and if anyone knows him now they only know of his death. I am so happy to see some of his quotes here and you gave him a moment that he deserves.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is sad that people mostly just know of him because of his death. He was so dreamy and a talented actor.
